Mon 3 October -Kuranda Sky Rail and Train...

We booked the day for Karanda.  After a casual breakfast we drove to the skyrail terminal for a 9am departure.  The sky rail (basically a chair lift in pods) is great - it stops at a few locations and you get to go out and walk through the rainforest, have a look at Barron Gorge and enjoy an interactive centre.  It takes about an hour and a half and we all really enjoyed it:

We then wandered around Kuranda, which is a quaint rainforest town, we downed a muffin and went to "Birdworld" which allows you to wander through an enclosure that has about 50 birds.  It was great.  Highlights included a Macaw attaching my cap to remove the button on top then looking to move to my glasses!  Then a cassowary took a liking to our boys and stalked them back and forward through the enclosure they were fenced off thankfully!  It was great and we spent around 45 minutes there.   We then went to the the German "wursthouse" for lunch and enjoyed some great bratwurst, sauerkraut and beer!

After wandering around and looking at shops for a little longer we caught the train back which gives a magnificent shot from Barron Gorge...

The rail line is an amazing engineering feat - with 15 tunnels and some unique bridges all dug with pick and shovel.  It was well worth doing and a great day...

After a bit of souvenir shopping we got some supplies and returned home.  I took the boys out for a hit of volleyball in a solid breeze which was fund.  Jen then conjured a delicious meal - Spaghetti with tomato and garlic with a tossed salad.   We then kicked back and watched the footy wrap.
